Week 3: Study Abroad with me in Spain

Enjoy week 3 of my 6 week study abroad journal log in Seville, Spain.

Today was a long one! It has reached next level hot as the Sahara desert heat wave radiates up into Spain. At one point it was 113 degrees!!

Last night, I went out for tapas with some friends at Restaurante Los Manueles in Granada. The tapas were absolutely delicious! Afterwards, we attended a flamenco show. The flamenco dancing was one of a kind and you can tell very important to the Spanish culture!

This morning, we had breakfast at the hotel. It was absolutely delicious with a lot of fruit! The group then hopped on a bus for a 3 hour ride to Cordoba. We had lunch there where I had tortilla de patatas. We got to see the Mezquita which was a beautiful mosque with a cathedral dropped right in the middle of it. It was absolutely beautiful and makes you see that all the modern buildings in America are so BORING. I continue to ask myself “what person in the future is going to want to walk through our boring buildings”. We also live in such a society that cares about the amount of product we can produce and not the quality, where people in the past focused on such intricate details.

After exploring, we took the bus back to Seville. It technically had A/C, but it definitely couldn’t keep up with the heat — making for a long, sweaty ride back.

Not writing these everyday made me lose track of what day it was! It is finally Friday!

This week has been really good! Lots of scavenger hunt pictures! A lot of sitting at the school in the A/C.

Las Setas is the largest wooden structure in the world that was designed by a German man in 2011. I can’t remember if I talked about this yet. Anyways a really cool structure with a great view from the top!

I love it here! Also, I love ice cream and have had it twice a day everyday this week!

Last night, we went out on the town! We saw the Roman ruins museum under Las Setas first and then went to an amazing Italian restaurant called Al Solito Posto. I got an orange flavored pork loin that was absolutely amazing! We then went to Las Setas again to see it from the top. This time we were up there later in the evening so we got to see the light show from the top. It was absolutely beautiful and so amazingly peaceful!

Today, we got to go to the beach and a bodega, which means winery in Spanish. This particular winery specializes in white wine. We got to have a wine tasting and eat cheese and ham. The ham was very good actually even though I was very unsure since it was just cured. We grabbed lunch at a cute little place when we got to the beach and I got pan tostada con queso y carne mechada which is toast with cheese and shredded meat it also had eggs on it. It was very delicious and had salt which is a rarity.

The beach is definitely something. Very sandy but fun!

Come back to see what I do in week 4 with the Texas Tech University study abroad program!

XOXO Maggie
